There are several ways for you to support the ministry of OMRS.

OMRS operates group homes in McMinnville, Albany, and Sweet Home and there are a variety of ways that you could help.

Being a Friend
Many of our residents enjoy walks, but need someone to be with them as they explore. Others enjoy board games, craft projects, or having stories read to them. Some of the people living in our homes like to go fishing and camping, or attend sporting events. Most of our residents love to receive cards and letters in the mail. Receiving a phone call is also a very special occurrence, and knowing someone whom they can call back is great, too. Perhaps you enjoy planting flowers. We know individuals who would be happy to help. We can also use assistance with lawn maintenance and other chores that are part of home ownership. Our staff members are very willing to provide any training you might need.

Health Care Representative

There are individuals living in OMRS homes, and other group homes, who have no one to serve as Health Care Representatives for them. This is also an area in which volunteers can play an important role. Decisions impacting our residents are not made by individuals, but by Support Teams. We value the participation of a resident’s Health Care Representative as part of this team. This does not require a person with a medical background, and the person assumes no financial responsibility.

Providing Social and Learning Opportunities
The range of social opportunities available to adults with developmental disabilities is often limited. This past summer, an individual who plays the harp offered to hold a concert for our residents in a city park. It was an amazing experience! If you are someone who likes to organize activities, we would really like to talk with you.

Financial Donations
Financial donations are also appreciated. OMRS is almost totally dependent on Medicaid funding. Donations allow us to do some extra things for our residents, such as purchasing three or four-wheel cycles to allow them to experience exercise in a supervised, outdoor setting. Larger contributions assist us with the purchase and upkeep of our homes, freeing up resources to better meet the needs of the people who serve.
